High Schoolers Demonstrate Chess Skills

Coquille High School students’ demonstrated their chess skills for an in-school tournament played throughout the day last week.
The tournament clearly determined that Jessi Ross is the school champion. Isaiah Hill was close, but a half point behind Ross earned a second place overall. Tied for overall third place were: Jasmine Lambson, Kaitlyn Davidson, Nicolen Romine, Sarai Perkins and Donavan Taylor-Blower. All participants were rewarded with a large candy bar.
The in-school tournament also sought out hidden talents to strengthen the varsity and junior varsity team who participate in the Southern Oregon Chess League. The next league game is Jan. 28 and State High School Team Championships are to be held Feb. 24 – 25 in Myrtle Creek.
Upcoming Fundraiser will be March 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a Mexican dinner feed at Coquille High School. Mark your calendars.
